Secondary Gifted Placement Locations 2020

posted Nov 26, 2018, 5:17 AM by Susan Gordon
Currently in Burlington, students identified as Gifted and selecting the Secondary Gifted Placement (SGP) attend Nelson H. S. Annually, the Halton District School Board reviews the placement of special education programs through the lens of viability and system need in support of students with special education needs.

Effective September 2020 there will be two Burlington locations for Secondary Gifted Placement. The programs will be located at Nelson H.S. (for students living south of the 403/QEW) and M.M. Robinson H.S. (for students living north of the 403/QEW).

Transportation will be provided if the student lives more than 3.2 km away from their designated SGP school. Student transportation eligibility can be verified by choosing the link “Am I eligible for transportation?” and entering the required information.

Nelson H.S. will continue to be the designated SGP high school for all students currently attending the SGP program at Nelson H.S., or registering for the SGP program at Nelson H.S. for the 2019/20 school year, regardless of their address within Burlington. Students in grade 9 gifted placement at Nelson H.S. prior to and including 2019-2020 will be grandfathered at Nelson to the end of grade 12.

Effective September 2020, Burlington students entering Secondary Gifted Placement (grade 9) will attend M.M. Robinson H.S. (north) or Nelson H.S. (south). M.M. Robinson H.S.’s SGP program will open in September 2020, beginning with grade 9 students only for that year. M.M. Robinson H.S. will add grade 10 SPG in 2021-2022; grade 11 SPG in 2022-2023; and grade 12 SPG in 2023-2024.

If you have any questions, your child’s Principal, the secondary school Principal, or elementary/secondary Special Education Resource Teacher would be pleased to assist you.
