Dear Parents & Guardians,

A reminder of two important events coming up this week and next:

October 11 Fifth Week Reports are sent home. Check out the FAQ below to learn more.

October 18 Parent-Teacher Interview Night. From 6:00 to 8:30 pm. See details below.

Fifth Week Reports FAQ:

On Thursday, October 11, Fifth Week Reports will be distributed to BCHS students. This will be through an email to the parent/guardian or by way of a paper copy given to the student in class.

Q: What are Fifth Week Reports?

A: They are an early assessment of student progress with an emphasis on work completion.

Q: Who receives a Fifth Week Report?

A: All grade 9s for every class, and any grade 10 to 12 student who is experiencing difficulty in a course (i.e. a current mark below 60%).

Q: Do all Fifth Week Reports look the same?

A: All reports are in the form of a Markbook printout that includes evaluations to date and may also include an anecdotal comment. The number of evaluations may vary by course as some courses focus less on formal evaluations during the first month.

Q: Why is there no overall mark on the report?

A: It’s too early in the semester to provide an overall mark. However, we recognize that it’s important to provide timely communication of every student’s progress.

Q: What can I do to ensure that my son/daughter stays on track to success?

A: Review reports for any missing work that can be submitted. Encourage your child to seek extra help during lunch in the Student Success Room (211). Stay connected with course websites for resources, due dates, and upcoming tasks. The course teacher can provide additional clarification by email, by phone, and/or at Parent-Teacher Interview Night.

Parent-Teacher Interview Night

The format for the October 18th Parent-Teacher Interview Night is as follows:

6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Informal Family-Teacher Conversations

7:00 pm to 8:30 pm   Formal Interviews - Recommended for specific progress concerns.

Students book Formal Interviews with their classroom teachers. Print and use this form for bookings: Interviews. Have your son/daughter connect with teachers before Thursday evening (October 18) to secure an interview. Bring this form on Interview Night so you know who you’re meeting with and when.

Finally, as we look towards November and December, we remind students and parents that The Final 30% for all courses occurs with the Performance Task and/or Exam. Please do not plan vacations or employment opportunities for your son/daughter during this important time starting on December 20 and finishing with final exams at the end of January 2019. For more information, please refer to our Extended Absence Procedures.
